PORTICI DI REZZONICO
(di Marco Luppi)

Portici di Rezzonico
Che vi affacciate sul lago
Quante generazioni avete visto passare?
Quanta gioia?
Quanto dolore?
E ogni notte ritornate
Rifugio di barche e reti.

History of the Chapel of Rezzonico and its Angel

The small chapel is erected on the little square of the Castle of Rezzonico. For the last three centuries it has been consecrated to Saint Anthony. Before that, for over 500 years, it bore the name "Church of the Three Kings". An old legend tells of Frederick of Germany, the Emperor known as "Read Beard", destroying Milan in 1162 and stealing the Holy relics of the Three Kings and carrying them to Köln were they can still be seen in the town Cathedral. During his journey from Milan to Köln his army camped in Rezzonico for a while and the Holy Bones were kept safe in the Castle's Chapel. Two paintings behind the altar still clearly show the Three Kings paying their visit to the newborn Jesus. Centuries later, the chapel being named after Saint Anthony, a much loved and admired statue of an Angel found its place on the black marble arch above the altar. This holy Angel and the powerful words of psalm 91 give us strength and courage. It is the Angel's wings that bring us the psalm. The eyes of the Angel look far and beyond and his wings guide him to us in each and every hour and day of our life.

Guarded by Angels

Nothing will harm or offend you.
The stones on your path will not wound your feet.
God will send His Angels to protect you.
When the night falls upon you or when the struggles of the day hunt you, under their wings you will find shelter.
God has given you to Them so that They will never leave you alone. When you are sad and when your hart is heavy and tired
They will help you find happiness
